Federal law (FCRA § 611) gives you the right to a free reinvestigation of any item in your consumer report that you believe is inaccurate or incomplete. Syntrove completes reinvestigations within the statutory 30-day period and provides written results.

§ 611(a)(1) — Notice of dispute

Submit the disputed item and any relevant documentation. We provide written confirmation of receipt and forward all relevant information to the furnisher of the information within 5 business days.

§ 611(a)(1)(A) — 30-day reinvestigation

Reinvestigation is completed within 30 days of receipt. The period may be extended by up to 15 additional days (45 total) if you supply additional relevant information during the reinvestigation.

§ 611(a)(6) — Written results

You receive written notice of the results within 5 business days of completion, including a statement that the reinvestigation is complete and, on request, a description of the procedure used.

Your rights under the FCRA

The following is a summary of the rights granted to you under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. This is not legal advice.

    Free reinvestigation

    Reinvestigation of disputed information is provided at no cost to you.

  • § 609(a)
    Right to file disclosure

    You may request all information in your file, including the sources of that information.

  • § 611(a)(5)(B)
    Corrected report

    If the reinvestigation results in a change, you may request a free corrected copy of your consumer report.

  • § 611(b)
    Consumer statement

    If reinvestigation does not resolve the dispute in your favor, you may add a brief statement (up to 100 words) to your file.

  • § 615(a)
    Adverse action notice

    If a consumer report was used to deny employment or another benefit, you are entitled to notice, the name of the agency, and a free copy of the report used.

  • § 621
    Right to enforce

    You may enforce your FCRA rights through the CFPB, the FTC, your state attorney general, or by private action in federal court.

Permissible purpose

Consumer reports are furnished only for a permissible purpose under FCRA § 604. Your dispute record is not used for any other purpose.

Retention & audit trail

Dispute records, correspondence, and reinvestigation results are retained for a minimum of 7 years with a full audit trail available on request.
